A 12-course English pathway from Arizona State University that takes learners from basic foundations to advanced academic communication.
ASU Global Digital English gives students access to ASU Global Launch online courseware for a comprehensive, high-quality English learning experience. The pathway is designed to strengthen language ability for both advanced education and future careers.
The program consists of 12 courses ranging from beginner to advanced level across CEFR A1-C1. Across the sequence, learners build reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills and complete the pathway with an ASU certificate after successful completion.

Basic pathway | GDE 30-45
Introduces English structures, sentence parts, sentence formation, simple conversation, and basic writing for everyday use.
GDE 35Basic communicationBuilds on the basics, strengthens everyday conversation and writing, and introduces past forms.
GDE 40Basic language skillsExpands reading, written, and verbal skills and supports conversation on personal topics in everyday English.
GDE 45Basic achievementConsolidates reading, writing, listening, and speaking across topics such as home, family, friends, work, school, and free time.
Intermediate pathway | GDE 50-65
Introduces intermediate English and refines language ability for both everyday and academic use.
GDE 55Intermediate communicationBuilds academic communication skills on top of an intermediate English foundation.
GDE 60Intermediate language skillsRefines and expands reading, written, and verbal skills for academic English.
GDE 65Intermediate achievementConsolidates academic English across all four skills and introduces essay-writing techniques.
Advanced academic pathway | GDE 70-85
Develops critical thinking with academic topics and texts together with advanced grammar and vocabulary.
GDE 75Academic analysisBuilds advanced language and critical thinking skills to analyze texts and form opinions and arguments.
GDE 80Academic persuasionApplies critical thinking to complex texts and teaches persuasive rhetoric in academic writing and speaking.
GDE 85Academic achievementUses complex texts to produce original academic writing, including thesis statements and cause/effect, process, and problem/solution essays.
