Political Science

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science curriculum is designed as an interdisciplinary programme to offer students the fundamentals of Political science, public administration, international relations and EU affairs while adopting a comprehensive approach.  One cannot fully comprehend political, legal and economic issues, without understanding the other, and one cannot tackle one without tackling, affecting or considering the other. Having said that, the department of Political Science is focused at providing a number of high-trained, young professionals, with full capabilities to be part, but not limited to, of the public administration of state organization, departments and institutions. The programme is so designed to provide students, either through public administration technocrats or through academicians, a high-level of practical and theoretical knowledge on the organization and functioning of the latter. Moreover, students (as by their orientation) shall have an opportunity to build sufficient knowledge regarding international relations and policies. Political Science consists of three specializations that are offered as a package to students. Specializations include: Public Administration, International Relations and European Studies.  This multidisciplinary program aims at offering to students:

  • Knowledge of the main theoretical and empirical concepts of political science, public administration and international relations about e.g. democracy, state as an organization, administrative behavior, governing system, the European political system, the international system, methodological issues and theories of international relations;
  • Comprehend the interaction between domestic and international politics (in e.g. Kosovo, Europe and other areas and the international system);
  • Elaborate statistical methods appropriate for administrative and political studies;
  • Discuss fundamental administrative and IR concepts and principles;
  • Advanced planning, control and decision-making models of administrative organizations;
  • Identify key challenges of the political systems and discuss reforms;
  • Analyze and estimate the political decision and their holistic effects.

The programme shall introduce students to all the concepts Political Science, Public Administration and IR/EU phenomena, as such, students graduating from this programme, shall be equipped with the necessary skills to perform job related activities and tasks required by various public organizations. Therefore, students can perform job positions that require to:

  • Research political phenomena and analyze the role of political decisions in the life of citizens
  • Deliver research-based political decision and arguments
  • Conduct research-based policy analysis and be able to recommend policy alternatives
  • Implement and draft policy, legislation that re in line with political agenda and institutional goals.
  • Be able to establish public debates, use arguments and provide constructive feedbacks to policy suggestions
  • Conduct quantitative research and develop research-based amendments
  • Provide consultancy to policy and decision making

Dual Studies

Dual studies are programs that combine academic studies with professional training or practical experience in a company and enable easier entry into the labor market.
Universum College offers dual studies, where students are offered full study funding, internships over three years and guaranteed employment in these companies in the departments of: Computer Science, Business and Management, German Language and Integrated Design.
So far Universum College offers dual studies with these companies:

  • Fox Group
  • Albina Dyla Company

Universum College has often been targeted by different institutions to form partnerships and professional collaborations aiming to contribute to the economy and development of sectors Hence, Universum College actively seeks qualitative and prestigious partners to launch and implement projects that foster positive changes, contribute to the development of society and enhance the skills and knowledge of young generations. Dual studies program enables students at Universcum College to pursue academic degree studies while working in a company/institution of their relevant filed. This enables students to obtain both academic degrees and professional experience. A recent dual study program was launched with Vision Agency.

Vision agency, a growing company operating in IT field offers a variety of services both nationally and internationally. Having, prosperous partners in Switzerland and Germany, Vision Agency is the leading company in Kosovo which exports services and products to Western Europe and beyond. Consequently, Vision agency is ranked amongst the most prestigious employers which offers above the standard conditions and salary to the youth of Kosovo.

Universum College has redesigned its curricula according to the needs and demand of the local and global market. Universum College updated its curricula by bringing more innovative, practical as well as entrepreneurial subjects. Curricula is designed in cooperation with experts of the respective fields and Vision Agency. Now courses offered Universum College directly equip students with necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to work for coherent companies such is Vision Agency.

As a final stage of our partnership, Universum College has introduced a scholarship program. In this program Vision Agency finances 20 youngsters’ education at Universum College. These scholarship winners, sign contracts with Universum College and Vision Agency. Contract requires 20 hours per week volunteering at Vision agency throughout the studies at Universum College. Upon the completion of studies, students sign 2-year regular employment contract at Vision Agency.

Shortly, Universum College will launch other dual study programs with respective local and international companies.

Tutoring services

The purpose of each tutorial is to help students develop strategies that help them strengthen their knowledge, develop transferable learning skills, and achieve academic success. The role of a tutor is to enable students to do their job using the best way of learning. The ultimate goal is to help students discover how he or she learns best and to help students develop their skills to achieve the best educational outcomes. If students need additional support and academic assistance tutors are informed. immediately. Thus, students’ academic performance is closely monitored

Student Activities

Students of the Department of Political Science, in addition to curricular activities, they are very active in organizing conferences, debates with well-known names in the field of domestic and international politics, as well as study visits to local institutions.

Conference on Support for the Employment Rights of Persons with Down Syndrome

Students of Universum College in cooperation with “Down Syndrome Kosovo” organized a conference to Support the Employment Rights of Persons with Down Syndrome. The event focusing on the issue of employment of young people with Down Syndrome, brought together the Director of Down Syndrome Kosova and members of this association, the President of the Jahjaga Foundation, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, representatives from the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education and students and the media.

Conference with General Wesley K. Clark

Live discussion with General Wesley K. Clark (ret.) On the topic “The world after Covid-19”. The conference aroused extraordinary interest from the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. During the conference, the General expressed his worldview regarding the exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia. And he called on his compatriots to bring ideas and investments to Kosovo. Finally, General Clark added that “Education is the most important thing for the future of Kosovo”.

Research by students: How educated are the deputies of the Republic of Kosovo

Universum College students from Political Science department  has conducted a research regarding the level of education of the deputies of the Republic of Kosovo. The purpose of the research was to identify the level of education, the directions in which these deputies have graduated and the places selected by them to complete their studies.

The normal minimum entry requirements for a candidate to be eligible for admission to the College’s courses are set out in the General Entry Requirements contained in the Prospectus. However, the absolute minimum criteria for a student to be admitted to this academic program, is that all students are expected to have successfully completed high school and have passed the national test (matura). In addition, in order to be enrolled in our program, all applicants are required to bring the following documents:

  • Birth certificate
  • Diploma and secondary school certificate
  • Legalized documents issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Kosovo for all those who have completed their education outside of the Republic of Kosovo
  • Completing the application procedures at Universum College
  • The contract of the study program if they meet eligibility criteria

Study Program

Bachelor study programs offered at Universum College last for three years (3 years) and consist of 180 ECTS credits or 60 ECTS credits per year. Students can obtain  Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) depending on their study programme.
