Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is a high quality program, the curriculum of which is built upon the recommendations of a prominent computing society of the IEEE. Our academic cohort encompasses a great balance of academic qualifications and cutting-edge industry experience. Advancement of Computer Science in today’s globalized world is continuing to grow and its application has been indiscriminative towards various business industries and country economies. Nationally, in Kosovo as a frontier market with a developing economy, the demand for computing professionals has started to increase. The job market in the computer science industry has continued to grow globally, making it one of the most attractive industries to be a part of.

Through a structured course system and a comprehensive approach by our academic staff who are equipped both with the theoretical knowledge and industry insight, this program aims at:

 

  • be prepared with high level of technical expertise, and be employed in the computing practice nationally and globally
  • serve as leaders in their field and contribute to Kosovo’s progress and economic growth through innovation, quality design, and automation of business functions
  • be aware and informed of the ethical, legal, and social responsibilities in their field
  • have the foundation to engage in continuous learning through professional studies or advanced graduate education

On successful completion of the program, students should be able to be equipped with various skills such as knowledge of the coherent programing software, cognitive skills, with practical and professional skills and equipped with transferable skills. Students who have successfully completed the program should be able to execute jobs that require:  a) apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline,  b) analyzing a problem and identifying the computing requirements,          c) design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs, d)function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal e) understand professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities , f) communicate effectively with a range of audiences  g) apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the trade offs involved in design choices.

The normal minimum entry requirements for a candidate to be eligible for admission to the College’s courses are set out in the General Entry Requirements contained in the Prospectus. However, the absolute minimum criteria for a student to be admitted to this academic program, is that all students are expected to have successfully completed high school and have passed the national test (matura). In addition, in order to be enrolled in our program, all applicants are required to bring the following documents:

  • Birth certificate
  • Diploma and secondary school certificate
  • Legalized documents issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Kosovo for all those who have completed their education outside of the Republic of Kosovo
  • Completing the application procedures at Universum College
  • The contract of the study program if they meet eligibility criteria

Universum College has signed an agreement with Microsoft (membership ID 1203882548), especially Microsoft DreamSpark (known as the Microsoft Academic Alliance), to use its software free for our students and staff. The software is to be used for educational and research purposes, and is directly applicable in the majority of the program’s courses. This software is aimed primarily for courses in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

In addition, Universum plans to use Open Source software, hence our students will be exposed to different technologies. In our enthusiasm and appreciation for Open Source, Universum has started discussions and aims to support community Free Libre Open Source software Kosovo (FLOSSK). 

Bachelor study programs offered at Universum College last for three years (3 years) and consist of 180 ECTS credits or 60 ECTS credits per year. The bachelor’s degree in bachelor studies is Bachelor of Arts (BA).
